In the latest issue of NYLON Guys, 19-year-old Logan Lerman proves that he’s not the same little kid in Riding in Cars With Boys or 3:10 to Yuma. With starring roles in upcoming movies The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Three Musketeers, this former child actor has officially grown up. You can get the lowdown from Logan in the NYLON Guys September issue on newsstands, but in the meantime, read the full transcript and see the photoshoot outtakes below!

Hey Logan! Where are you right now?
I actually just got back to L.A. last night. We literally just wrapped shooting on Perks of Being a Wallflower and then headed straight to the airport. Sorry if I’m a little bit out of it, I’m just running on adrenaline right now.

Wow, that’s crazy. How was filming Perks? Was it tough preparing for your role as Charlie?
I went to Pittsburgh [where filming took place] before anyone else and locked myself in a room and never left, except to go to T.G.I. Friday’s…alone, of course. I’ve been torturing myself for the past few months trying to get into Charlie’s head. It was intense, trying to understand his feelings of isolation.

The cast of Perks is pretty awesome, too….
The cast is so mind-blowingly talented. It was one of the most creatively compelling experiences.

Had you read the book before you started filming? Of course I’ve read it! Pretty much every has. It would be terrible I hadn’t.

Let’s talk about your other cool new project, The Three Musketeers. What was that like? It was kind of crazy, because that was the first time anyone had contacted me and offered me the role. I trained for 3 months before we even officially started training because my role is very stunts-oriented. Because a lot of my scenes involved combat, we were constantly preparing for different fights. I had never done anything before that was so intensely stunt-driven. But at the same time, there’s depth to the characters.

What did you do on your off-time during filming?
I had so much fun with all the guys. We filmed it in Germany, in places between Munich and Berlin, so we constantly hung out. On the off days the cast would tour around the city, visit old castles, and basically be tourists. I’ve never been able to travel to places like Germany in my life, so to be able to do that for work was just awesome.

Going back to the beginning, how did you first get involved in acting?
I started just for fun when I was really, really young. I quit for a while and then I really started taking it seriously about 7 years ago; I had this enlightenment and I was fascinated by film and moviemaking and fell in love with the art of creating a film. I got back into acting as a means to get my foot in the door for directing and behind the scenes part, to get in on the set and learn it that way. But then I started falling in love with acting again, so it’s kind of a hobby turned profession. Directing is something that I’ve always wanted to do, though.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
I play music. I love learning a new instrument and creating songs; it also goes hand in hand with filmaking, like creating a feeling and emotion in music to complement a scene. Songwriting, guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, a little bit of violin, a little bit of everything- primarily guitar and piano. It’s just a hobby for now, maybe it would turn into a profession someday…who knows.

Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller are spotted on the set of The Perks of Being a Wallflower in Pittsburgh on Saturday (June 25). Hmmm, Ezra looks like he might be flirting a bit with Emma. What do you think?

Don’t miss Caught on Set’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower page for more pics of Logan, Emma, and Ezra on set.

Ezra is definitely a rising star in Hollywood. In April, he was interviewed by Kate Bosworth for a feature in Interview magazine. Kate asked Ezra about his dream role and he revealed: “I always thought it would be really, really cool to play Edgar Allan Poe, because when I was a kid, he was one of the authors who really blew my mind open to all sorts of weird dark and twisted places. When I can grow a moustache, I want to play Edgar Allan Poe.”

Edgar Allen Poe? That’s not the answer you’d expect from an 18-year-old!

“Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” star Logan Lerman dropped in on WonderCon last week to promote his upcoming 3D adventure film “The Three Musketeers.” He spoke with HitFix about his role in the film and his experiences learning how to fence.

The Three Musketeers was short two Musketeers at WonderCon today. Logan Lerman who plays the young rebel D’Artagnan came out to support the project along with Luke Evans who costars as Aramis. But Matthew Macfadyen (Athos) and Ray Stevenson (Porthos) were absent, as was Orlando Bloom, Milla Jovovich, and Christoph Waltz. Not to worry though, because the panel still helped shed light on the upcoming retelling of the classic story. Read below to get the dish on what to expect.

  • The panel started with the same teaser we saw just a couple weeks ago; however, this time I was definitely more on board with the film. Watching it on a big screen with surround sound made it much more exciting.
  • Lerman talked extensively about his training for the film, particularly the fencing he had to learn. In the big, intricate fights, he had to perform as many as 150 moves in just ne scene! That’s a lot to remember, but it was dangerous too. “Every time the swords hit, there were sparks!” he said. Even though the actors did their own fight scenes, no one got seriously injured. Evans noted that there were a few sword cuts. He quipped: “You want us to say there were fatalities, don’t you?”
  • Lerman talked a bit about his costars who weren’t in attendance. He describes Jovovich’s character in the film as an “asskicking m’lady” who terrifies the Musketeers, and joked that Waltz “brought his Oscar every day” to set.”
  • While the Musketeers have been portrayed in film before, both of the stars promised that this new version will bring its own slant to the story. “We’re looking at it as the untold chapter of the story,” said Lerman. “Make them the James Bond, Navy SEALs of their time.” Evans suggested that there’s always room for another film version.”They’re good stories,” he said. “They last forever, and they deserve a place in everyone’s generation. This one is the same.”
  • As for their look in the film, apparently it comes down to one thing: hair. “I had a lot of hair in this one, it’s true,” laughed Lerman. “Sexy hair,” added Evans.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief has been out on DVD and Bluray for over a month — did you get your copy?

JJJ recently chatted with starlet Alexandra Daddario about her role as Annabeth, kissing costar Logan Lerman and what she’s up to next. Check it:

On smooching with Logan: “Oh it [the kiss] was fine. This was sort of towards the end of filming so we were all such good friends at that point that I didn’t even think about it. Movie kisses are different that real kisses. It’s hard to believe but when you’re acting you don’t even…I don’t know how to explain it but you know we shot two endings and I think they decided the other ending made more sense as far as the relationship and what was true in the book.”
