For Oyster issue #95 Alexi Wasser caught up with heartthrob Logan Lerman (swoon) and touched on some very interesting topics including one night stands, older women and the ‘man pill’. If only he’d shown us his stomach too…

Not all that long ago, in a house nestled in the Hollywood Hills, I did something that will make me the envy of tweenage girls all over the world: I interviewed 19-year-old actor Logan Lerman (of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and The Three Musketeers). We discussed everything from girls, to dating, to love, to sex. Yes, I’m well aware that all of these topics come under the same umbrella, but these are the things I’d want to read about in an interview with a cute actor I had a crush on!

Alexi Wasser: So, I’m going to ask you a lot of questions, some of which are completely inappropriate and none of my business. Feel free to say “pass” when you feel uncomfortable and don’t want to answer. OK?
Logan Lerman: OK.

Is Logan Lerman your real name or a stage name?
It’s my real name. Everyone in my family has the initials LL.

Like the Kardashians with KK. What’s the craziest fan story you have?
I had someone who kept showing up at a hotel and slipping notes under my door, along with pictures they drew of me.

Do you have Google Alerts?
No. Do people do that? I can just read what everyone says about me online? Well, I mean, that would be uncomfortable; that would just make me feel like a complete asshole.

Robert Pattinson has admitted to having Google Alerts in an interview…
Really? Has he?

He has. Are you on Facebook or Twitter?
I have a personal Facebook, but I’m not on Twitter.

As a male actor, do you suffer from body dysmorphia? Do you feel pressure to have a six-pack/eight-pack?
I don’t.

Do you have a six-pack? Can I see your stomach?
What? No! I don’t work out [laughs]. Next question.

Are you single?
I guess I’ll pass on that too.

What is the longest relationship you’ve ever been in? Eight months?
No, longer — two years.

What is a first date with you like? How do you woo a girl?
I haven’t been on many dates. I’ve had a few girlfriends, and those dates went well. I’ve never had, like, the ‘ideal date’, whatever that is.Do you love the Lakers? Have you sat courtside yet? Have you ever taken a girl on a date to a Lakers game?

I like the Lakers. They’re my team, but I’m not a fan of basketball. I don’t really know much about basketball. I did sit courtside about seven years ago — not on a date, with my brother. He’s a huge Lakers fan and I got the seats when I was really young, when I was working on a TV show — Jack & Bobby — and the network got me the seats. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.

You’re on a first date. Who pays and why?
Oh, I would always pay. Even for my friends. Even for, like, a girl who’s just a friend. It’s just the way I was raised.

That’s fantastic. You’d be surprised what’s going on out there in the world of dating.
It’s terrible.

You’re a Capricorn — what does that mean? Are you into astrology at all? Why are girls so into astrology?
I have no idea, and I have no idea.

Would you ever date, or make out with, or have sex with, a girl who is taller than you?
[Laughs] That’s funny! That’s hilarious! Yeah, definitely! There are a lot of girls I’m attracted to who are taller than me.

Are you a virgin?
I’m going to pass on that. I mean…

If it existed, would you take the ‘man pill’?
If it existed? Um, I can’t imagine that would be healthy for you… Hmm, if there was one, and it was safe, yes, I would take it. That would be very convenient.

As an actor, girls throw themselves at you, and you’re going to have the opportunity to have more casual sex than most. Are you excited about this? Or do you think casual one-night-stand sex will make you feel empty? Do men have feelings too?
Yes, men have feelings too, and yes, that would make me feel very empty. It’s not what I look for. I like to get to know a person … If it’s something so sudden, it makes me uncomfortable. I don’t sleep around.

What’s a huge turn-off for you with people in general?
Well, everyone has his or her pet peeves, but mine are really random. There’s nothing I really look for in someone that would irritate me. But, like, someone who uses a piano as a table would irritate me. I have a really odd, random list of things that would bother me, and that’s one of them — using it to put down your drinks, or as a piece of furniture, instead of playing it.

Who do you want to work with more than anything?
Paul Thomas Anderson, the Coen brothers, Spike Jonze — filmmakers I really respect.

Did you originally sign onto The Three Musketeers because you misunderstood and thought the director was Paul Thomas Anderson [the actual director is Paul W.S. Anderson]? That happened to people I know with a directing duo called the Cohen brothers, but a different Cohen brothers.
[Laughs] No, that’s not why I took the film. A real deciding factor was my grandfather. As a young kid he had to leave his home in Germany and he only took a book or two with him … The Three Musketeers was one of them. He just loves the story, and I grew up watching the films with him because he loves the movies as well. You know, it meant a lot to him, and I really wanted to be a part of it. I want him to come to the premiere but it’s in London, and it’s hard for him to have the energy to fly…

Which role are you least proud of?
I’d love to be able to answer that… Give me a few years before I can answer that honestly.

In The Only Living Boy in New York, the upcoming modern take on The Graduate, your character has an affair with his father’s mistress, played by Olivia Wilde. Would you ever date an older woman in real life?
Yes. I’ve dated older women. I like older women. You know, it all depends on the person … I don’t have an age limit.

That’s great! You’re 19 — you should be dating older women and learning lots of new things.
Exactly.

What’s the worst thing about being interviewed?
Everything. I don’t know; it’s a weird thing. It’s very uncomfortable and you’re also constantly thinking about how you’re going to word something, or how something is going to be phrased. Having to think about that is a little… [He trails off because his phone vibrates — it’s his dad. He is a gentleman and presses ‘ignore’.]

So, you have an actual ‘momager’. What’s that like?
It’s a weird relationship; you can’t deny that. It’s odd working with your mother growing up. But I’m glad … because it made me much more… I feel more grounded. Her being present kept me from becoming… from avoiding that trauma that young actors tend go through. I appreciated having my mom around and all the sacrifices she made for my career: travelling with me as a kid, going to these locations, living in Memphis for three months. She was an economics major at UCLA. She worked in the art world in Los Angeles. She had a different life, doing all of her own things. To selflessly let me pursue my dream at a young age, and for her to help me and be there for me, is something I can’t thank her enough for. But it’s very difficult for a young person to be around their mother that often.

Are your parents together?
No, they’re divorced. But I’m very close with both sides of my family. They chose to live close to each other.

You’re still a kid, but when you’re older do you think you’ll want kids?
Who says I don’t have kids already?

Oh my fucking God! What? Do you?
No. But I’d love to have kids one day, of course.

Do you promise me you’ll never take drugs or smoke?
Sure.

At this very moment, are you figuring out ways to get my phone number so you can take me out on a date, without your publicist or the photographer hearing?
Ha! You read my mind.

Logan Lerman plays against type in Three Musketeers

He’s made it past the often impossible hump, from child actor to fully fledged male lead, but the best thing about Logan Lerman is he’s not blase about beating the odds.

The young star of the new Three Musketeers movie is all too cognizant of his statistically unlikely success, and appreciates every single opportunity he’s ever been given, from landing the starring role in the Vancouver-shot Percy Jackson and the Olympians, to playing opposite Orlando Bloom and Milla Jovovich in the latest take on Alexandre Dumas’ swordsmen.

“I realize this wasn’t even a realistic career option for me until about two years ago,” says Lerman, who plays D’Artagnan, the “fourth musketeer.”

“I was close to graduating from high school, and, at that point, acting was still really just a hobby for me,” he says. “I had no real plans, but opportunities were presented to me, and I decided to take them.”

Those opportunities were 2010′s Percy Jackson, which is currently gearing up for a sequel with Lerman in the lead once more, as well as Three Musketeers and a new movie for John Malkovich’s production company, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, with Emma Watson (Harry Potter) and Paul Rudd (Our Idiot Brother).

“I never imagined being able to be in movies like this,” he says, gesturing at the movie poster for Three Musketeers propped on an easel. “I think not having any expectations about the future was a good thing. I’ve always tried to look at it from a work perspective, and just embrace every moment and every job that came along.”

Lerman says he made the decision to defer university for a while to pursue his options, but he’s not ignorant of the consequences. “They say every year you put off university is like three years, if you want to go back, but for now, this seems like the right path.”

Lerman is 19, but he looks more like 16, as a result of his smooth white skin and baby-blue eyes framed by long black lashes. He grew up in Los Angeles, but he has the feel of a kid from the Midwest: straightforward, honest, wholesome and just a little bit shy.

“I am, I guess (a little bit shy),” he says, blushing.

It’s hard to equate this soft-spoken kid with the swashbuckling hero in leather pants he plays on the big screen, but that’s only further evidence of the young veteran’s acting abilities.

“I’ve never played a character who is so far from who I really am. D’Artagnan is not like me in any way, really.”

Self-assured and just a little cocky, this version of the fourth musketeer is one of the youngest D’Artagnans we’ve ever seen. He flirts with girls, challenges evil warlords to duels, and swings around on ropes with all the androgynous grace of Errol Flynn.

“This movie was a blast to make. I had so much fun making it,” says Lerman. “We were shooting in Germany, and it was the first time I left home to work by myself. So I got a chance to really explore a whole new place and be myself, but that didn’t mean going out and being crazy. That’s not who I am. I’m more interested in the cultural things a city has to offer. And I like to get to bed reasonably early.”

Lerman says his mother helped him craft his work ethic early, because she also doubled as his manager. “I wasn’t sheltered,” he says. “But my mom definitely made sure I wasn’t immersed in the world of making movies at a young age. I just enjoyed the work, and she let me do it, as long as I was having fun.”

Lerman says that, up until he landed Percy, he was pretty much like any other kid in his high school. “I’d take a project and work during the summer months, and then go back to school. It was pretty normal,” he says.

“This,” he says, pointing to the fancy curtains of the Shangri-La meeting room, “is not normal for me,” he says. “I mean, I’m doing it more often. I am travelling and doing press tours, which is becoming a bigger part of my life, but it’s not what I would call normal. Normal for me is going home and being with my family.”

Lerman says he’s always chosen stability over the sex appeal of risk and uncertainty.

“I kind of like to go along with whatever is happening, but I think I’m always aware of where I am,” he says. “Some people don’t have an open mind, and when I was younger, and travelling to different places, I think I found it hard to enjoy things. You know, I come from a great city where there are a lot of things happening, and if you end up in a small town where you don’t have all those things, you can feel the difference,” he says.

“Somewhere along the way, though, I think I learned to appreciate that difference. I realized people have different realities, and I learned to respect that. It really opened my eyes a little bit more to the most important things in the big picture,” he says.

“Respecting and understanding different people is pretty key. And as an actor, I think you need that. It’s about your comfort level, and whether or not you know you can do what’s being asked of you.”

Lerman looks across the table and pauses.

“I know it all sounds kind of obnoxious for someone my age to talk about the importance of experience and perspective,” he says. “But it’s true, and I’ve learned to embrace it.”

Logan Lerman Joins ‘The Three Musketeers’ As Hump Day Hottie

Logan Lerman is no new kid on the block, but he’s really rallying to become one of Hollywood’s unstoppable stars as he makes the transition from child star to adult actor. This week he hits theaters in the period action flick, “The Three Musketeers,” and for that we’re naming him our Hump Day Hottie.

Vital stat: This 19-year-old grew up in the 90210 zip code (that’s Beverly Hills, for those completely living under a rock). Fact: He attended New York University for a minute where he studied creative writing. For now, his studies have been put on hold, which is sort of ironic since being a Hump Day Hottie is not the only honor that Logan has won this year. He was also declared Class President of our New Class.

Where you might have already seen him: Logan has a pretty extensive resume for such a young man, including, “What Women Want,” “Riding in Cars With Boys,” “3:10 to Yuma,” “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” and the TV series “Jack and Bobby.”

Why you should take notice of him now: This week he stars in “The Three Musketeers,” where he’s teaming up with the legendary swashbucklers to defeat a new villain. But, that’s not the only role we’re getting excited for. He’s also set to star in the highly anticipated “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” as well as “The Only Living Boy in New York” and “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters.”

Fox Moves Ahead With New ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Percy Jackson’ Films

“A Good Day to Die Hard” opens on Valentine’s Day in 2013; “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” launches over the Easter holiday in 2013.

Fox has confirmed it is moving forward with the next installments in the Die Hard and Percy Jackson franchises, setting release dates for both.

A Good Day to Die Hard, which returns Bruce Willis in the title role, will hit theaters on Feb. 14, 2013 in order to take advantage of the joint Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, based on the bestselling young adult book series, will open on March 26, 2013, the Wednesday before Easter Sunday.

Fox also dated Andy Finkman’s comedy Parental Guidance (previously titled Us & Them), starring Billy Crystal, Marisa Tomei and Bette Midler. The movie, produced by Crystal,Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark, is Fox’s Thanksgiving play in 2012, opening in theaters on Nov. 21.

The studio dated handful of other films, including Taken 2, which opens Oct. 5, 2012 (Columbus Day weekend); Gerard Butler surfing drama Of Men & Mavericks (Oct. 26, 2012) and Walking with Dionsaurs (Oct. 11, 2013).

Logan Lerman Thanks Fans For Voting Him New Class President: ‘That’s Really Nuts!’

The votes have been tallied, the results are in, and—at long last—our New Class of up-and-coming A-listers has its very first President. And while there were some big names up for election, our winner is clear as can be: the mythical beast-fighting, wallflower-perk-having, super-legit young actor Logan Lerman (who was also dubbed Most Likely To Make You Swoon)!

So when we caught up with Logan at the junket for “The Three Musketeers,” we had to let him know of his new role as the New Class President. Logan’s reaction? Well, let’s just say it’s pretty typical for a dude who just won a presidency he wasn’t campaigning for: surprise, shock and a whole lot of stammering.

And, in related news, stammering is now among the most charming AND handsome activities known to mankind.

“That’s really… wow! Very flattering,” he said. And even after being told who he beat out for the presidential honors (including heavyweights Josh Hutcherson and Emma Watson), Logan still couldn’t quite shake the deer-in-headlights expression as he tried to wrap his head around the enormity of his success.

“I was not expecting…” he said, then stopped and tried again: “I heard about this, but…”

Poor guy. He’s gobsmacked!

“That’s really nuts! Thanks!” he finished.

No word yet on what Logan’s first order of business will be in his new role as President. However, I think we can safely assume that it will involve free Popsicles and backrubs for everyone.

‘Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ EXCLUSIVE Set Visit With New Class Kids

All week long, we’ve been doling out superlatives to 10 of Hollywood’s hottest up-and-comers, but today is extra-special as we bring you an EXCLUSIVE first look at the coming-of-age tale “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” starring four (yes, FOUR!) of our New Class inductees.

Based on the 1999 novel by Stephen Chbosky, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” follows introverted high school freshman Charlie as he slowly comes out of his shell thanks to new friends, siblings Sam (played by Emma Watson) and Patrick (played by Ezra Miller). We recently caught up with the cast on set, where they were filming the homecoming scene, to get the scoop on the talent-heavy production.

“I feel incredible about it. I feel like I’ve been waiting for ‘Perks,’ ” Emma, who we dubbed Most Likely To Win An Oscar, said. “I was waiting for this story, for this script, for this moment, for these people to do it with me. I’m so glad I didn’t do anything that I didn’t care about.”

“Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev, who plays Charlie’s older sister (and who we named Most Likely To Become A Style Icon), couldn’t have agreed more. “Every hiatus, my goal is to try something different, and this is a small part in a great, fun indie that has a great script,” she said. “It’s been fun to meet such great new people. Everyone really gets along and is really friendly and fun.”

For his part, star Logan Lerman (Most Likely To Make You Swoon), utilized his own uncomfortable experiences to play the quiet protagonist. “I definitely tapped into some awkward childhood memories for this movie,” Logan said. “It’s been a year and a half since I first signed on to the project, so to be out here making it is a pretty big deal for me. It’s cool to be working with this great cast of young actors.”

Logan Lerman & Gabriella Wilde Interview For ‘The Three Musketeers’

“One-for-all and all-for-one.” The hot-headed young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson) in this reboot of Alexandre Dumas’ classic story ‘The Three Musketeers.’ They must stop the evil Richlieu (Christoph Waltz) and face off with Buckingham (Orlando Bloom) and the treacherous Milady (Milla Jovovich). Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson’s, the action adventure is given a state of the art update in 3-D. The film also stars Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Freddie Fox, James Corden and Juno Temple. ‘The Three Musketeers’ is released in cinemas October 12th in the UK, and October 21st in the US. Look out for more in-depth interviews closer to the films release date.

How was it to play such an iconic character in D’Artagnan?

Logan Lerman: It was great. D’Artagnan is a cocky young swordsman, who at the beginning of the film is leaving home, a small town home, he’s leaving for the big city, Paris, in hopes to become a Musketeer. It’s that fantasy when you are a kid, running around the house with a stick pretending like you’re sword fighting. Everybody wants to be D’Artagnan, everybody wants to be one of the Musketeers – it’s pretty surreal to be playing one of these characters.

Gabriella, can you tell us a little bit about your character in ’The Three Musketeers,’ Constance?

Gabriella Wilde: Well she’s incredibly naïve because she’s young, yet at the same time she’s very smart, she’s not necessarily like all the other ladies in waiting. She’s very interested in everything, she’s exciting by D’Artagnan because he comes from somewhere she knows nothing about, and at the same time he knows nothing about her life. When she first meets him there’s this big fight scene, she doesn’t run away from it, she’s looking, she wants to see what’s going on, she sort of plays with him. She’s confident but I think you also see moments where she’s thrown – when D’Artagnan appears in the place and she’s so embarrassed that he spoke to her in front of the Queen, she doesn’t know how to handle that because she is really young. She’s also insanely loyal, there’s so many different aspects to her, and there’s so many different moments in the film that show them, I really liked that.

How does wearing the costumes and being on location help you get into character?

Logan Lerman: To read a script at home, to read this movie at home for the first time – I’m from Los Angeles, in that city, in my room, in my normal life – I found it very difficult to get into the role, or kind of understand the character. But the minute we got out to Germany and started rehearsing at these locations, with the wardrobe and everything, it all just came together naturally. That was a lot of fun, it always helps.

How was it for you Gabriella being on such a big scale production?

Gabriella Wilde: It was hugely exciting to be on a movie so elaborate, with the costumes, the sets. It’s so far away from everything you know that it’s sort of terrifying and exciting – because everything’s new. When you get in the costumes you immediately feel different and like your character. You have to stand differently and move differently, you’re in pain in weird places (laughs), you feel what it’s like for them really, I’m sure they had it much worse, we get to take it off at the end of the day.

You’re involved with a tonne of action, what sort of training did you do to portray D’Artagnan?

Logan Lerman: We went through months and months of training to be able to look like I could sword fight in this movie. We trained for maybe four months, three months before filming. Then throughout filming, just everyday perfecting a new fight sequence. Our goal was to show audiences something that they have never seen before – so we worked really really hard to make this look amazing.

’3 Musketeers’ to hit Indian screens Oct 14

The Orlando Bloom-starrer ” Three Musketeers” is set to hit Indian theatres Oct 14.

Based on Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel of the same name, the film is shot in state-of-the-art 3D format and stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz, among others.

“Three Musketeers” talk about Porthos, Athos and Aramis who served the king of France as his best musketeers. After discovering an evil conspiracy to overthrow the king, the musketeers come across a young, aspiring hero, D?Artagnan, and take him under their wing.

Is Logan Lerman the new Leonardo DiCaprio

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief actor Logan Lerman has been making great strides in the world of Hollywoodthanks to his great performance in the hit fantasy movie. He is rapidly becoming the name on everybody in the industries lips and has an ever growing fan base.

So it is no surprise that people have started to throw in comparisons between him and Inception actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Like Leo, Logan has started acting at a young age and like Leo he has shown a great talent for it. But talent alone does not make you a huge star in Hollywood.

The most impressive thing about Logan Lerman is his passion for the job and his undying work ethic, especially for one so young. Logan recently revealed how he locked himself away for weeks to help him get into the mid of his latest character for the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Not many veteran actors would even consider doing that, so it shows just what he is willing to put into his work to reap the rewards. DiCaprio is renowned for getting into his characters weeks in advance of starting a shoot, which shows yet another similarity between the two stars.

Logan Lerman is next up in The Three Musketeers and people have started to compare him in this movie, to Leonardo DiCaprio in The Man in the Iron Mask. Although there are many similarities between the two, and Logan would no doubt be honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as someone like Leo, he is sure to want to be a star in his own right.

If Logan continues to do what he is doing, he will no doubt get the recognition that he deserves. His hard work and dedication to his trade are an inspiration to all teenagers around the world, that if you want something bad enough and you work hard enough, you can achieve it. Logan Lerman, we salute you.
