Now that guys like Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Brad Pitt, and Orlando Bloom have settled down, it’s time for a new crop of young actors to take Hollywood–and the ladies–by storm. These guys make teenage girls swoon, inspire directors to take note and most importantly, have the acting chops to back up their heartthrob statuses.

In the September issue of VMAN, The Archetype Issue, the magazine crowns a group of young, talented newcomers as Hollywood’s next big heartthrobs.

Logan Lerman, who plays D’Artagnan in this fall’s “The Three Musketeers” and the starring role in next year’s anticipated “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” is one of the young actors who made the list.

It looks like Percy Jackson is all grown up.

Even though the 19-year-old heartthrob seems to be landing some of the hottest roles in Hollywood at the moment, he admits that he never set out to become an actor–it just found him.

“I just kind of did it,” Lerman told VMAN in regards to acting. “It was a blind leap of faith. I just went for it. A big ‘f–k it’ moment so to speak.”

But that blind leap of faith turned into a burning passion for anything related to the cinema.

“I love watching movies; I’m a total cinephile,” said Lerman. “I love learning about anything that goes into filmmaking, whether it be cinematography, editing, anything. Outside of that, I’m very passionate about music–anything from movie compositions or classical pieces to rock and pop. I love to play music. I love to listen to music. I just love music.”

19 year old Hollywood actor Logan Lerman has revealed how he hopes to one day follow in the steps of so many other Hollywood stars and make the switch into music. Logan admitted that he is already more than competent on many musical instruments and finds making music very similar to making movies.

Lerman explained, “I play music. I love learning a new instrument and creating songs, it also goes hand in hand with film making, like creating a feeling and emotion in music to complement a scene. Songwriting, guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, a little bit of violin, a little bit of everything- primarily guitar and piano. It’s just a hobby for now, maybe it would turn into a profession someday, who knows.”

Logan Lerman has previously praised his co stars, Emma Watson and Nina Dobrev, from The Perks of Being a Wallflower as well as revealing how he got into the mindset of his character for the movie. Logan can next be seen on the big screen, when he appears as D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers, which is released on October 12 in the UK and October 21 in the US.

Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman is set to appear in the latest adaptation of The Three Musketeers but he was more concerned with discussing his latest role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Logan plays Charlie in the movie, who happens to be quite the recluse, which Lerman trained to get in character for.

Logan explained, “I went to Pittsburgh before anyone else and locked myself in my room and never left, except to go to T.G.I. Friday’s, alone of course.” He then added, “I’ve been torturing myself for the past few months in order to get inside Charlie’s head.” Now if that is not dedication then tell us what is.

Logan Lerman is one of a number of big name Hollywood stars who are starring in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, including Emma WatsonPaul Rudd and Nina Dobrev. The movie centres around Charlie who is introduced to a world of sex and drugs during his freshman year. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is set to be released sometime next year.

The Los Angeles Times’ 24 Frames is reporting that Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) has been hired to direct a sequel to Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, with Logan Lerman returning in the title role. The first film, released in 2010 and directed by Chris Columbus, cost about $95 million to make and earned $226 million worldwide.

Columbus will produce the follow-up, written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The newspaper says:

“Riordan’s second book, subtitled “The Sea of Monsters,” follows Percy and his group of friends as they head to the titular sea to find the mythical Golden Fleece, as well as to free a friend who has been captured there. It’s expected, though, that the sequel will draw from other Percy Jackson titles as well as “Sea of Monsters.”

EXCLUSIVE: “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” was a reasonably sized hit when it came out in the winter of 2010: The mythology-infused film based on Rick Riordan’s bestseller drew $89 million in U.S. box office and another $137 million around the world.

Now a sequel hopes to build on that fan base.

According to a sourcefamiliar with the production who asked not to be identified because of the sensitive nature of discussions, studio Fox 2000 has exercised the option on star Logan Lerman, essentially meaning that the young actor is locked down to reprise his role as Percy Jackson in a new picture. The company has also hired a director in Thor Freudenthal, best known for helming the similarly boy-oriented “Diary of a Wimpy Kid;” he’ll pick up where “Lightning Thief” director Chris Columbus left off. (Columbus will only produce this new movie.)

As we reported in March,Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the well-regarded writers of “Ed Wood” and kid hit “Agent Cody Banks,” have been brought on to write a script. The idea, the source said, is to move quickly with a new film and come out as early as 2012.

The first “Percy Jackson” film introduced the world to an ordinary boy who discovers that he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. Riordan’s second book, subtitled “The Sea of Monsters,” follows Percy and his group of friends as they head to the titular sea to find the mythical Golden Fleece, as well as to free a friend who has been captured there. It’s expected, though, that the sequel will draw from other Percy Jackson titles as well as “Sea of Monsters.”

It’s easy to understand a studio’s interest in the Percy Jackson property: In addition to the five books Riordan wrote in the series, he’s penned numerous spinoffs, including the popular “The Demigod Files.”

Any new Percy Jackson movie would need to contend with the age question: Lerman is already 19 in real life (the first film aged the character up from 12 to 17) while the property’s core fan base can see their tastes change pretty quickly.

Then again, there is this tantalizing fact: After this summer there will presumably still be audiences hungering for movies about boys on fantastical adventures, but no “Harry Potter” to sate them.

Today, Perks of Being A Wallflower, the highly anticipated movie based on the best-selling book of the same name, began filming around Pittsburgh and they’re already off to an exciting start!

According to a notice on the Upper St. Clair government website, they are filming all week around Mill Grove Road, Swanson Lane, Hathaway Lane, Ewing Circle and Valley Court in Upper St. Clair.

One of the posters in our Perks Open Thread added the following scoop about today’s shoot:

I saw them filming a little bit. Kate Walsh is playing the mom & Dylan McDermott is the dad. I got to met Logan Lerman, Nicholas Braun and Nina Dobrev! All really sweet, Logan really took time to talk to all of us, get pictures and sign autographs.

@LexiHays also posted a few photos with Logan, Nicholas and Nina, you can see one of the photos above and the others here or here.

The movie also stars Emma Watson and Mae Whitman.

Pittsburgh is set to become the backdrop of two new movies: “Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Still I Rise.” “Perks of Being a Wallflower” is a best-selling novel, written by Upper St. Clair native Stephen Chbosky, who will adapt the book and direct the film.

The story is set in Pittsburgh and revolves around a 15-year-old, to be played by Logan Lerman, who copes with his first love and own mental health, among many other things that can plague adolescence (and life in general). Reminiscent of J.D. Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye,” it’s a great book, and I recommend reading it before seeing the film. Set to begin production in the summer, the film will also star Emma Watson, best-known as Hermione Granger from the “Harry Potter” series. Producers will be Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith, while John Malkovich will executive produce.

“Still I Rise” is rumored to begin production around May 2 or May 9, though leads have yet to be cast. Daniel Barnz will be directing and writing the screenplay while Mark Johnson will be producing the film which will revolve around “two strong women, both mothers, who channel their frustration into action and join forces to transform an inner-city school. They want to make a difference in education and the lives of their children.”

Though no locations have been finalized, 10-12 schools in the area have been scouted and considered. And Walden Media executive, Mylan Stepanovich, says that the production plans to hire as many local residents as possible. With a script that calls for “thousands of extras,” these movies are bringing new work to western Pennsylvania as well as entertainment.

Young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) is about to lock lips with his love Constance (Gabriella Wilde) in one of three new images from ‘The Three Musketeers’ released exclusively to AOL Moviefone.

There are also new stills featuring Musketeers Aramis (Luke Evans), Athos (Matthew Macfadyen) and Porthos (Ray Stevenson) with the treacherous M’Lady De Winter (Milla Jovovich) after what looks like a victorious battle, and a scene at court opposite powerful enemy Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz).

The studio has also sent out more complete bios of the Musketeers:

Aramis (Luke Evans) is the James Bond of his time, a cunning Musketeer and an expert martial artist, but also a ladies man. Passionate and ambitious, Aramis is one of the best of the best and he knows it.

Athos (Matthew MacFayden) is seen as the leader of the three Musketeers and acts as a father figure to D’Artagnan, taking him under his wing. Anthos is also quite secretive, with a mysterious past that haunts him throughout the film. • Read full story »

Briefly: You’re probably going to be hearing a lot more about Logan Lerman in the next couple years. He was reportedly in the running for Spider-Man after starring in Percy Jackson & the Olympian: The Lightning Thief. He’s D’Artangan in The Three Musketeers (trailer here), and he’ll be the lead in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, opposite Emma Watson. Now he’s booked a new role as The Only Living Boy In New York.

Deadline has the news, saying that Seth Gordon (The King of KongHorrible Bosses) is attached to direct the film. Allen Loeb wrote the script, which is called “a twisted coming-of-age tale in which a young man (Lerman) learns that his overbearing father is having an affair. The son tries to stop it, only to become involved with the woman as well.”

What a classic ’80s sex comedy setup that is! But given that I’m hearing that Seth Gordon has turned out a very funny and very dirty film with Horrible Bosses, so I can easily envision that story turning into something that will be more in line with the sort of R-rated comedies we’ve seen since Wedding Crashers.
Furthermore, seeing Logan Lerman play against his relatively clean image as a heroic young kid could be a bit of fun. Let’s see who is cast as the father and his mistress before expecting too much, but this one is now officially on the radar.

Last week at WonderCon Summit Entertainment screened a sneak peek of their upcoming action adventure The Three Musketeers.

In addition to the footage that was presented, Summit offered select press interviews with Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson3:10 to Yuma) who plays D’Artagnan in the film.

Lerman found the experience of portraying“one of the most iconic characters in literature” to be an incredible one.

The young actor embraced the opportunity to be a part of the retelling of one of his grandfather’s most beloved tales. When asked how his interpretation would differ from the previous depictions of D’Artagnan, Lerman replied:

“It’s much more badass. We definitely wanted to up the action, and give it a cooler spin. A well deserved cooler spin. This is nothing that anyone’s going to expect when thinking about the long line of D’Artagnans, and how much older they were than the character is. Paul (W.S. Anderson) wanted to get somebody who was closer to the actual age of the character, because he’s 18 in the novel. So, yeah, expect a badass D’Artagnan who actually is the most dangerous character in the film, because nobody knows who he is when he comes to the city from a small town, and he’s trying to prove himself.”

According to Lerman, becoming the most “badass” D’Artagnan that the world has ever seen requires a fair amount of preparation:

“I think I had the most fight scenes in the film, so I wanted to make sure that D’Artagnan looks like a badass with a sword, and fencing is such a detailed sport that I wanted to make sure that it looked right, and we can please fencers all over the world. So I trained for maybe eight or nine months. Right when I found out I was doing it I was training immediately and throughout filming we were (training) every day. Any free time, in between takes, or lunch breaks, I would be training with the stunt team on the film for hours and hours a day.”

Though Lerman had done some fight and weapons training for Percy Jackson, the actor feels this film is in “a whole different league of sword play. It’s way more detailed, way more dangerous — and it’s going to blow people away.” Lerman continued by saying that, D’Artagnan “is supposed to be the best swordsman of the group. He’s also supposed to be the most wild and insane swordsman, so we tried to make a different style for him.”

The film itself seeks to differentiate itself from the previous iterations of The Three Musketeers as, what Lerman calls, “a more contemporary version” of the classic tale.

“It’s the untold chapter where the Musketeers are weaponry experts, and they’re kind of looked at as being the James Bonds of their time, with gadgets, and little gizmos, and fun things instead of just sword fighting. It makes for a lot of fun, and offers a different twist than the other “Three Musketeers” films.”

One of the aforementioned “gizmos” just happens to be a flame-thrower that Matthew Macfadyen (Athos) makes use of in the film – a fact which Lerman laughingly tells us was cause for “a lot of jealousy” on his part during production. If you have not yet done so, take a look at The Three Musketeers trailer, and see for yourself that this is, as Lerman says “not your father’s ‘Three Musketeers.’”

The Three Musketeers opens in theaters on October 13th, 2011.

Paul W.S. Anderson directs a cast that includes Logan Lerman, Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson, Christoph Waltz and Milla Jovovich.
