Last month he turned 18.

Friday, Logan Lerman’s poised to become a star in the title role of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” The fantasy adventure is in the Harry Potter [website] vein, only with Greek gods instead of wizardry.

“I’ve loved movies and I’ve just always wanted to be in films since I was like 5 years old or so,” said the Los Angeles native.

Lerman made his film debut in Mel Gibson’s “The Patriot” when he was 7. At 12, he had a turn on TV’s “Jack & Bobby.”

“That’s where I started, really,” he said in a one-on-one interview at Manhattan’s Empire State Building (which figures prominently in the movie’s climax). • Read full story »

Recently, ‘Percy Jackson: The Lighthing Thief’ Director, Chris Columbus mentions bits about Logan casting in Percy movie with Rolls Credit Online.

How much input did you have in the casting process?

My assistant told me I should go see this film a few years back called 3:10 to Yuma (2007) because of this kid’s performance, Logan Lerman. I went to see the movie and I was really blown away by his performance. I kept it in the back of my head [and] when it came time to do Percy, I remembered Logan and he stuck with me. He came in, we had an interview, and he was just absolutely phenomenal in the interview and he agreed to do a screen test for the studio and he was just mesmerizing. Honestly, you see this a couple times in your life. I think this guy is on the path to become someone like Matt Damon or Tom Cruise. He really is that strong of a performer. He’s sort of like a 45-year-old actor in a 17-year-old body. I was completely impressed and blown away with his performance in the film and it’s all on screen.

Is there anything special you do to help your actors become more comfortable with one another on set and kind of break the ice? Do you have rehearsals?
Yeah, we do a couple weeks of rehearsals where we’ll just sit and read through the script. That, and with a film like this, this film demanded intense physical rehearsals so Alex and Logan had to do weeks and weeks of swordfighting training, really intense physical training. Logan also, at one point in the film, is flying because he’s wearing Hermes’ flying shoes so he has to work in a harness. While he was flying, he was actually battling a 5-headed hydra so he needed to have that sort of physical training to be able to basically swordfight in the air while flipping over mid-air. So, those kind of physical challenges combined with the usual rehearsal period made for an intense pre-production time.

Seated together at a conference table inside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the four youthful stars of director Chris Columbus’ latest family adventure film, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” looked like normal young adults, if more attractive than average. They joked and teased and interrupted each other. But on camera, make no mistake, they are nothing if not extraordinary: All play demigods, the children of Greek and Roman deities.

And yet, as Logan Lerman, 18, who plays Percy Jackson, the son of sea god Poseidon and a mortal woman (played by Catherine Keener, felt by many to be a goddess in her own right), noted, their basic humanity is the point. “That’s what’s so appealing about (the film). We’re average high school students, with normal, everyday problems, even disabilities. And that’s treated as a strength.” • Read full story »

Chris Columbus (“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Home Alone”) directed the epic fantasy-adventure starring a trio of rising young stars — Logan Lerman (“3:10 to Yuma”) as the film’s title character, the brave, fearless young warrior, Percy Jackson; Brandon T. Jackson (“Tropic Thunder”) as the Satyr Grover, Percy’s protector who attempts to earn his very first horns while keeping the young demigod out of harm’s way; and Alexandra Daddario (“Bereavement”) as another demigod, Annabeth, daughter of Athena, who joins Percy on his quest to prevent a devastating war. • Read full story »

Logan Lerman, the star of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” says he’s in talks to play Peter Parker in the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie that will reboot the blockbuster superhero franchise.

“There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into,” Logan told Access Hollywood.

At 18 years old, Lerman would seem a good fit for the role of a teenage webslinger in director Marc Webb’s film, though nothing is official at this point regarding his attachment. However, Lerman said he was a big fan of the famous Marvel hero.

“It’s one of my favorite characters ever and I’m a huge fan of the series,” he said. “I’d love to have more conversations about it. I’m definitely very interested in it.” • Read full story »
