Congrats, Paloma Kwiatkowski!

The Vancouver native has just been announced as Thalia Grace in the Percy Jackson film series.

According to Deadline, this was Paloma’s very first audition and attends high school in the area.

In the book, Thalia Grace is the daughter of Zeus who ran away from home at the age of 10. As she and her friends, Luke, Annabeth and protector Grover approached Half-Blood Hill, the monsters they were outrunning caught up to them. She sacrificed her life for her friends, and her father, Zeus, took pity on her before she died and transformed her into a white pine tree to prevent her death.

In other casting news, Nathan Fillion will play messenger God Hermes, and Anthony Head has replaced Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, the centaur who runs Camp Half-Blood

Firefly hero Nathan Fillion has signed on to join The Three Musketeers hero Logan Lerman for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters the sequal to 2010’s Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

The Castle star will play Greek god Hermes, taking over the role from Dylan Neal who played him in the original film according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fillion joins new recruits Mary Birdsong, Yvette Nicole Brown and Missi Pyle who will play The Fates in the sequel that will see Logan Lerman reprise his role as the titular Percy Jackson, while Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T Jackson and Jake Abel are expected to return as well.

Back in January Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly signed on to headline indie family drama “Writers”, playing exes and parents, and now it looks like their children may have been found. Variety reports that Lily Collins and Logan Lerman are the new additions to the cast, along with Nat Wolff, Liana Liberato and Kristen Bell and even a cameo from novelist Stephen King. “Writers”, indeed. Josh Boone wrote and will make his directorial debut on the film.

“Writers” is touted to be a “funny and touching tale of a fractured family trying to rediscover one another over the course of a tumultuous year.” Kinnear is the successful novelist and Connelly plays his ex-wife. Collins plays their college student daughter, studying writing herself, who is pursued by a fellow aspiring writer (Lerman). Connelly and Kinnear have another son, who is a teen, so Wolff may presumably play him. King will cameo as – who else? – himself, and no word on who the other new additions will be playing. Filming is set to begin on March 12 in North Carolina.

Collins will be seen later this month as Snow White in revisionist fairy tale “Mirror Mirror” opposite Armie Hammer and recently wrapped up shooting on indie dramedy “The English Teacher” opposite Michael Angarano and Julianne Moore. She’s also in talks to play Juliet in comedy “Rosaline” and will will test for the female lead in Akiva Goldsman’s sci fi epic “Winter’s Tale” next week as well. Lerman will soon be seen in the highly anticipated adaptation of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, and will return for “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters”, reprising his role from the original Greek myth teen novel adaptation.

“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is now rated PG-13, rather than R, the Classification and Rating Appeals Board of the MPAA ruled Thursday.

Erik Feig, president of production at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Stephen Chbosky, the director, screenwriter and author of the novel on which the movie was based, appeared before the board to make their case for the lower rating.

Originally, the Classification and Rating Administration assigned the movie, which stars Emma Watson and Paul Rudd, an R based on “teen drug and alcohol use, and some sexual references.” The appeals board switched that to PG-13 “for mature thematic material, drug and alcohol use, sexual content including references, and a fight – all involving teens.”

The movie  is about 15-year-old high school freshman Charlie, played by Logan Lerman, who is taken under the wings of two seniors while he copes with his first love, played by Watson, the suicide of his best friend and his own mental illness.

The MPAA has been under criticism lately for assigning the Weinstein Co.’s documentary “Bully” an R. The company appealed the rating, but lost.
