BlackBook.com: An Interview with Logan Lerman
For an eighteen year-old actor, Logan Lerman already has quite an impressive body of work. From the critically acclaimed television series Jack & Bobby to indie films like My One and Only and action movies like 3:10 to Yuma, Lermanās been hitting Hollywood on all fronts. You can now add āepicā to his list of credits. In his newest film, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief, Lerman plays the title character who is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Zeusā lightning bolt. Percy embarks on a journey to save his mom and catch the real thief.
The movie, directed by Harry Potter helmer Chris Columbus, has an all-star cast that includes Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan and Catherine Keener who plays Percyās mother. Even though the movie is based on the best-selling teen book series of the same name, Lerman assures us that this is a film for all ages. āThis movie relates to people in general,ā he says. āItās about the life struggle of taking your weaknesses and trying to make them into your strengths.”
How did you first get the acting bug?
What movies inspired you growing up?
Already a hit in its opening weekend in theaters (raking in $39 million), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief has been compared to the Harry Potter series and its star, 18-year-old Logan Lerman, has been hailed as the next Daniel Radcliffe. What else does the fantasy film share in common with Harry Potter? More than you might think!
1. The story is a mythological adventure to rival Harry Potter. The premise: American teenager (Lerman) discovers that heās the demi-god son of Poseidon and a mortal (Catherine Keener), is accused by Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt. Just like Harry, Percy’s part of a teen trio that includes pals Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario). Look out Harry, Hermione and Ron!
2. Director Chris Columbus knows his way around a fantastical tale: He already helmed two Potter pics, 2001′s Harry Potter and the Sorcererās Stone and 2002′s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. • Read full story »

Chris Columbus has already steered a best-selling children’s-book series into a mega-successful big-screen franchise, helming the first two “Harry Potter” films. There’s no reason he can’t do it a second time.
That’s his task with the modern-day tale of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” the first film adapted from the work of author Rick Riordan. After selecting Daniel Radcliffe to become Harry, Columbus plucked 18-year-old Logan Lerman for the role of Percy. He’s the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, and a human mother, who’s completely unaware of his lineage until he’s pulled into a scheme to rescue Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt before the gods use planet Earth as their personal battlefield.
Percy joins up with Grover (Brandon T. Jackson), who’s half-man, half-goat, and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), who’s the daughter of Athena. Together, they set off on a quest to save the world. Before the film arrives in theaters Friday (February 12), here’s what you need to know. • Read full story »
Actor Logan Lerman recently had a pretty special 18th birthday celebration while traveling to promote his first big movie, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. “We were just heading to Europe,” he tells Rachael, “so I had a good time in London and Athens!”
Rachael hands the mic to some teens in the audience who are eager to know if the actor has picked out a date for his prom. “No date yet, but I’m totally planning on going!”
The Lightning Thief ($38.8 million) and The Wolfman ($36.5 million) held their positions; Avatar ($30 million) added to its substantial bottom line. More results:

Thereās been a lot of Percy Jackson 2 talk in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a sequel?
There are five books in the Percy Jackson series, so far. The next installment is āThe Sea Of Monstersā which sees Percy, Annabeth, and his half-brother Tyson the cyclopes sailing across a dangerous ocean to save the kidnapped Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece (the only thing that can stop Camp Half-Blood being made vulnerable to an attack by the Titans).
At the London press conference last week director Chris Columbus said āIf we are successful enough, Iād love to make another film almost immediately with these guys. We had a wonderful time. I love the enthusiasm and lack of cynicism. I want to go back to work quickly.ā • Read full story »
