Is the star of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thiefdestined to be the new Spider-Man? Just a few days ago, the buzz on the web suggested yes, but now thereâs another contender looking to make the casting decision into a tangled web.
Over the weekend, Hitfix reported that actor Logan Lerman was “almost 100% locked,” but not yet in contract negotiations to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming film, to be directed by Marc Webb. As written by James Vanderbilt (The Losers, Zodiac), this new incarnation is intended to be a reboot that skews younger; it will center around a high school-age Peter Parker who must learn to balance school, girls, and being the amazing Spider-Man.
Shortly after the news broke, however, insiders at Sony reportedly denied Lerman has nearly landed the role. In fact, according toDeadline, their sources were “very definitive in denying the story,” to the point of stating that Lerman was “100% not going to be Spider-Man”and that he is not even among the candidates being seriously considered. • Read full story »

While the website Hitfix reported today that Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman was the clear first choice and “almost 100% locked” into becoming the next Peter Parker in the rebirth of the  Spider-Man franchise, insiders at Sony say that the young actor is not getting the role. In fact, these sources were very definitive in denying the story, and were sure that Lerman was 100% not going to be Spidey and that he is not on the list of candidates being seriously considered. for the new film that will be directed by (500) Days of Summerhelmer Marc Webb. On the other hand, Drew McWeeny is often right about stuff–he was first to accurately note that Fox was eyeing other directors for the X-Men: First Class spinoff film because Bryan Singer had committed to direct Jack The Giant Killer.

The search for the new “Spider-Man” appears to be over.
HitFix has exclusively learned that Logan Lerman is first choice for Sony Pictures and the clear frontrunner to replace Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in the reboot of the blockbuster franchise. A source close to the production tells HitFix Lerman is “almost 100% locked” but not in contract negotiations for the role yet.
Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”) is directing the new untitled “Spider-Man” which is being written by James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac,” “The Losers”) and is meant to be a more teen-friendly incarnation, taking Peter Parker back to his early days of balancing girl trouble, homework, and crimefighting. The new film is expected to begin production later this year for a July 3, 2012 release. • Read full story »

Rick Riordan, the author the bestselling âPercy Jackson & the Olympiansâ series of books for young readers, paid a visit on Sunday to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to discuss some of his classical inspirations. The first book in his series, âPercy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief,â tells the story of a troubled young boy with ADHD and dyslexia who discovers that the Greek gods are real, and that heâs actually the son of a mortal woman and Poseidon, god of the sea.
Riordan kicked off his talk at the Metâs Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium by apologizing for the rainy weather outside. âThanks for braving Zeusâs storm!â he told the audience, which was largely made up of young children and parents. During the presentation, Riordan said he planned to launch a new âCamp Half Bloodâ series in the Fall of 2010, most likely in October, though the final details havenât been set. In his books, Camp Half Blood is a special area that shelters and trains the children of gods and mortals. • Read full story »
